Speke’s Camp, Central Masai Mara

Posted on Posted in lodges, Masai Mara

Speke’s Camp is situated in its own private wedge of the Maasai Mara surrounded by fabulous indigenous trees overhanging the Olare Orok River. It is a traditional up market tented camp that can serve as a base for exploring the Maasai Mara. The Camp consist of eight comfortable traditional safari tents either double or twin bed (or family tents) with closet, luggage rack, a desk and seating area.

Why do We Love Speke’s Camp?

We LOVE Speke’s Camp because it is a proper traditional, characterful tented camp. It’s a pretty little camp with a pretty little mess (full of books & board games) always housing delicious homemade cookies. Oh yes, the food is amazing!! The tented rooms are extremely cozy (LOVE the family tents, so delicious and snug). The owner is knowledgeable and hilarious and the staff are wonderful and understanding of kids needs.

Fauna & Flora

The Masai Mara and the adjoining loita plains form the Northern end of the Serengeti- Mara ecosystem. The reserve itself covers an area of about 583 square miles and consists largely of undulating plains, with grasslands being the dominant vegetation. It supports an enormous mass and diversity of grazing herbivores, which in turn makes the Mara a paradise for predators, such as Lion, Leopard and Cheetah as well as the Spotted Hyena. The Mara River is the main water source that passes through the reserve and serves as a home for the Hippo and Crocodile populations that can be seen in the Mara. The Mara is the best game viewing area in Kenya and thought by many professionals to be the best in East Africa.

Seasons & Weather

Speke’s camp is open all year round. The area has a typical savannah climate; warm days and cool nights. Daytime temperatures are 24-28°C.
